My Lollipop: The FunOrb Forums Weigh In

September 27, 2009 Comments off

I decided to make my latest Thought Bubble, “A Lollipop With My Shot?” simultaneously posted on the FunOrb Official Forums (It wasn’t solely because people who read this page are less likely to comment on here or on the forums, but it was a major factor behind the decision). I was glad to see that the respondents have so far taken my article in context, owing that my message was geared more towards the timing of the price increase, rather than the actual price itself, or the lack of content.

Here are some small snippets of the forum comments currently, after the break. I’ll be updating this as more people reply. If you have any thoughts on the recent price hike, feel free to drop a line on this page, the forums, or in the FunOrb official forum thread: 15-16-741-40650

A Lollipop With My Shot?

This week saw Jagex finally putting forth their plan to increase the price of FunOrb from £2/$3 to the new price of £3.20/$4.95. The new pricing, which went into effect earlier this week, will apply to new members, and existing members who let their membership drop for a certain period of time. I’ve taken a look at the reactions players have been giving Jagex, and would like to reiterate and respond to those issues; but in a way that is much easier to understand.

More after the break.

My Own Olympics Image

I saw Jagex’s Olympics picture in the latest Developer Diary, and it made me relieved that I didn’t publish the one I created, that was significantly less professional.

logo_funorbI’m leaving the Olympics page up, possibly indefinitely, as a permanent show for the players who played hard and gained medals, and for those who topped the Arcanists and Armies of Gielinor ranks.

I’ve been writing online for a long time, and I can’t say I’m proud of all of it (In fact, some of it was downright crude). However, I was looking through my stockpile today, and I’ve dug up some gems to show everyone. So without further ado:

Brick-a-Bash, SmashOrb, Prestige, Armies, and Bans

August 23, 2009 Comments off

As part of my mandatory indefinite community service I received as punishment for this year’s April Fool’s day joke (When I proclaimed new ownership by Jagex, I filled out the wrong form for signing over my first born child. Sorry, Mod C!), I’ll be looking at the forums for good rants, suggestions, and other social commentary.

The first bit comes from Neovortex5, who has a bone to pick with Brick-a-Brac and several of its “features.” He makes excellent points about the method with which players are knocked out of the game, the implementation of certain “powerups” not actually hindering those they are used against, a few glitches, and mainly how the game is based off of luck foremost over skill.

The next thread comes from Sceptilius, who asks the question: How about a Super Smash Bros title with a FunOrb twist? Why not have a game where the blob from Bouncedown can fight the miner from Miner Disturbance? Who is the better wizard, Wizard Run or an Arcanist? Can the ranger from Kickabout League run circles around the Druid from Armies of Gielinor? A popular brand, Super Smash Bros, but can real time 2d-combat be transposed onto FunOrb?

For thread numero three-oh, we jump over to the Arcanists boards where Knight Rips is going for his 10th prestige. While that’s not exactly a new concept, what is fairly uncommon is that Knight is going for it in a legitimate manner, rather than rating transferring or, as some of the people on page 1 and 2 of the Armies of Gielinor rankings may be familiar with, exploiting rating bugs.

Speaking of Armies of Gielinor, Verkajj knows how to create a 100% invincible base, and wants to share this information with you (presumably to create some sort of Frankenstein monster-kills-creator scenario). Would you like to increase the invincibility of your base with just three easy Gods? Non-members need not apply, this program involves the Menaphite Pantheon.

And finally, Pepsi G 0 D offers you the chance to ban other players for any reason under the sun. Pick a reason to ban the person above you, and go for it! Even-(User was banned for this post: (End of Article) -Omali)

Escape Vector: Not Just an Update

July 24, 2009 2 comments

This week’s update to Escape Vector was, in my opinion and in many other’s, not just an update; it was a complete overhaul and reimagining of the title that opened up the game to newer prospects, a much wider user base, and greater horizons. So much so, that I’ve decided to do a review of the update.

Thought Bubble: The Cain and Able of FunOrb

June 24, 2009 1 comment

Not too long ago, Jagex made an announcement that would shake the very foundation of FunOrb, bringing reality as we know it to its knees, and I’ve run out of analogies to hype this up as being far more important than it really is.

Jagex announced the development of Dungeon Assault 2, spiritual successor to the Dungeons and Dragons-esque dungeon crawler, Dungeon Assault on the FunOrb Platform. The game was met with mixed reviews, but for all intensive purposes, has been a success. The game has stayed at a steady #10 spot in the top 10 active FunOrb games, with Orbers firing off raids, and decorating their dungeon in a creepy middle ages version of the Martha Stewart show.

With the announcement of Dungeon Assault 2, we have gained some insight into Jagex’s perception of Dungeon Assault, and that brings us to tonight’s topic.

New Poll: Members Betas

June 10, 2009 Comments off

Sometimes things escape your mind for a few…months. As is the case with the poll, which I realized I hadn’t updated since sometime in March. So the new question; Members Only betas. A good idea? Bad Idea? Not a member? Don’t care?

As for the previous poll, I apologize if I’m being a little predictable. Here’s how the figures match up.

chartI plan on doing a new Arcanists poll every major update, or every 6 months (whichever comes first) if anything just to gauge the community’s opinon over time.

PFO Investigates: Crisis In My FunOrb

May 30, 2009 2 comments

It’s been almost three months since an event, a few days in late March that would go down in history. Speaking of it is inviting a storm of rage from a normally docile group of Orbers; Who is to blame? Why hasn’t anything been done about it? Can anything be done about it? Should we stop playing until something is done about it?

The game is Armies of Gielinor. The setting is late March. The sentences are short. The suspence is artificial.
